My name is Art Lightstone. I have taught for twenty five years. While my work is driven by my passion for civic engagement and social justice, it is often facilitated by technology. I am quick to embrace new approaches and tools in the classroom, but I am loathed to get bogged down in gimmicks or fads. I established what I referred to as "web-supported" courses (today, often referred to as "blended learning") back in 1996. In 1997, I launched www.newlearner.com, and, starting in 1998, I developed and taught one of the first e-Learning courses to ever be approved for an Ontario Ministry of Education credit.
I have learned, and I continue to learn, many valuable lessons about teaching and learning within a digitally interconnected environment. I hope that you will take the time to examine some of these lessons with me - so that, in the end, you may arrive at your own conclusions about the opportunities, and the challenges, that technology, connectivity, and the new educational landscape has provided the new learner.
